Question 140533: Let C be the circle (x-1)^2 + (y-2)^2 =144 and P be the point (10,10) is the point in the circle, out of the circle, or on the circle. I am pretty sure the answer is P is outside of the circle, but I what I am kind of looking for is how this problum would be solved.

the equation is in the center-radius form
__ center (1,2) and radius 12

use the distance formula from the center to the point in question
__ is it more than, less than, or equal to the radius

(10-1)^2+(10-2)^2=d^2 __ 81+64=d^2 __ 145=d^2

d^2 is greater than r^2, so the point is outside the circle (but not by much)
