(1) Draw the cross section of the drum, including the grilling surface.

(2) Draw the segment from the center of the circle (drum) perpendicular to the grilling surface; that segment bisects the grilling surface.

(3) Draw the radius of the circle to one endpoint of the grilling surface.

That gives you a right triangle with one leg 25/2=12.5 and hypotenuse 55/2=27.5. You can find the other leg (distance from the center of the circle to the grilling surface) using the Pythagorean Theorem.

The answer (depth of the BBQ) is the radius of the drum (from the center of the drum down to the bottom) plus the distance you determined from the center of the drum up to the grilling surface.
