Question 176766: A steel plate measures 4 feet by 6 feet and is ½ inch thick. If this steel weighs .265 pounds per cubic inches, how many pounds does this plate weigh (to the nearest pound)?
Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
lets conver everything to inches
:
4feet=12(4)=48 in
6feet=12(6)=72 in
:
thickness is already marked inches
:
so 72(48)(1/2)=1728 cu in
:
now we need to multiply our cubic inches by .265 pounds/cu inches
:
1728(.265)=457.92 pounds
:
to the nearest pound pounds
