Question 1138628: circular metal pieces, 10cm in diameter, are cut from a rectangular of metal sheet that is 50cm by 40cm. If as many circular pieces as possible are cut out, what percentage of the metal is left over?
Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Can cut 5 along the long axis and 4 along the short axis, so 20 altogether
area of the whole sheet is 2000 cm^2
area of each circle is 25pi cm^2, 5 cm radius.
20 of them are 500 pi
500 pi/2000=0.7854
so 21.5% of the metal is left over.
