Question 76980: Hi, here is the question:
The average (arithmetic mean) of the test scores of a class of p students is 70, and the average of the test scores of a class of n students is 92. When the scores of both classes are combined, the average score is 86. What is the value of p/n?
I first tried 86=70p + 92n, but quickly realized it wasn't going to work. I don't know how to work it so I can eliminate one of my unknowns and solve for the other. Help! Thanks.

Question 56689: How would you get the Average number Days Late out of the formula listed below. The chart was done in an excel spreadsheet.
=(E8*4)+(E8*5)+(F8*6)+(H8*7))/(D8+E8+F8+G8+H8)
The letters represent days, but why would you use the same day twice and why do you multiply by 4, then 5, then 6, then 7. If the formula is supposed to be for the AVERAGE Number of Days Late, wouldnt you just take the number of days like 3 and divided it into 10? If you can help explain this, i would be more than grateful. Thank you.
