A 24 foot wire is to be cut so that the longer piece is three times longer than the shorter piece. Find the length of each piece.
----------------
3 times longer is 300% longer = 4 times as long.
L = length of the short piece
L + 4L = 24 feet
5L = 24
L = 4.8 feet
Longer piece = 19.2 feet
