In Mr. Johnson’s social studies class, the class average on a test was 90%.
He has 25 students in the class, and only three students failed.
If the 23 passing students averaged 93% on the test, what did the three failing students average?
:
let f = average of the 3 failed students
= 90
multiply both sides by 25
23(90) + 3f = 25*90
2070 + 3f = 2250
3f = 2250 2070
3f = 180
f = 180/3
f = 60% is the av of the failed students
