Question 909044: What does b stand for in
b÷17+4=-4
Answer by JulietG(1812) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
b÷17+4=-4
Assuming there are no parentheses, follow the Order of Operations.
Do the division first.
+4 = -4
Subtract 4 from each side
= -8
Now multiply each side by 17 to get rid of the pesky fraction
b = -136
IF there had been parentheses around (17+4), you would do that first.
b / 21 = -4
Multiply each side by 21
b = -84
