Question 903630: You and your family are traveling to a football game. You and your mother leave at 8:00 A.M. Your dad leaves at 9:30 A.M. If your mother drives at an average rate of 50 miles per hour, and your dad drives at an average of 65 miles per hour, when will he pass her? Suppose the game is 205 miles away. Who will get there first? What time will your dad get there? What time will your mom get there?
Answer by richwmiller(17219) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
gaining speed 65 -50= 15 mph
mom's headstart 50*1.5 =75 miles
time to catch up 75/15=5 hours
distance to meeting 5*65=325 miles
dad will never catch her
mom
50x=205
4.1 hour 4 hours 6 minutes
12:06:00 pm
dad
65x=205
3.15 hours = 3 hours 9 minutes 13 seconds
12:39:13 pm
