Question 898581: if you have four test grades of 97,89,63 and a 50 can you earn an average of a B- for the cycle when you have another test coming up and a B- is an 80-83?

To earn a B- (minimum average 80) over 5 tests, you would need 80 * 5, or 400 points.
So far, over four tests, you have 97, 89, 63, 50, or 299 points.
You would need 101 points on the next exam for an average of 80.

If this is a real life situation, I would suggest asking the teacher if there is a way to mitigate the 50, either by retaking it or by extra credit. Otherwise, there is very little incentive to study for the next exam since a 51 will give you an average of 70 (I'm assuming that's a C-).
