Question 896350: the mean weight of 7 people is 61kg. another person joins the group and the mean falls to 59kg. what is the weight of the 8th person

Mean = sum/#.

For the seven people: 61 = sum/7

sum = 61*7 = 427

For the eight people: 59 = sum/8 so sum = 59*8 = 472

The difference is the weight of the 8th person: 472 - 427 = 45 kg
