Question 857482: When simplifying algebra equations or polynomials does your answer have to be in a certain order. Ex.polynomial-Simplify each expression by combining like terms - 8x^2-4x+7+4x^3-x^2+7x-2 and i got 7x2+3x+5+4x3. Correct answer in the back of my ged book is 4x^3+7x^2+3x+5. I think what they aredoing is ordering the simplified expression from greatest to least. What i want to know are both answer correct? Should I order them the same way on the ged test?

Hi,
4x^3+7x^2+3x+5 is the most acceptable: in order of decreasing exponents
Note: NOT necessary to write it this way,
but 4x^3+7x^2+3x+5 = just to explain the decreasing exponents rule for writing a polynomial
