Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The final is worth 20%, so the rest of the classwork is 100 - 20 = 80% of your grade.
Let's assume 60% is a passing grade.
Let x = score on final
(weight of final)*(score on final) + (weight of class work)*(score on classwork) = passing grade
0.20*x + 0.80*0.66 = 0.60
0.20*x + 0.528 = 0.60
0.20*x = 0.60 - 0.528
0.20*x = 0.072
x = 0.072/0.20
x = 0.36
So if 60% is a passing overall score, then you can get a 36% on the final or more, to get an overall grade of 60% or more.
Special Note: Your professor may have special grading practices/methods. For instance, s/he may curve the scores or may drop your lowest score. So it's best to ask the teacher about this sort of thing.
