Question 748993: A total of 50 juniors and seniors were given a mathematical test. The 35 juniors attained an average score of 80 while the 15 seniors attained an average of 70. What was the average score for all 50 students who took the test? Please show how it was worked out. Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
If 35 juniors averaged 80, then the total score achieved by the 35 juniors is 35 times 80. Likewise, 15 seniors averaged 70, so the total score for the seniors is 15 times 70. The total score for all of the students is the total score for the juniors plus the total score for the seniors. And the average for all of them is the total for all of them divided by 50.
