Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a carpenter has a board that is 4/9yd wide. she cuts the board into 5 pieces. if all the pieces are the same width, how wide is each piece?
--------------
Note: (4/9)yd = (4/9)(3 ft) = 4/3 ft = (4/3)(12 in) = 16 inches
Equation:
5*(width of a piece) = 16 inches ft
-----
width of a piece = 16/5 inches = 3 1/5 inch
======
If you want the answer in yds: (4/9)yd /5 = 4/45 yd
--
If you want the answer in feet: (4/3)ft/5 = 4/15 ft
