You score a 63/75 on you first test.
After your second test, your teacher tells you your test average is 88%.
The questions
Find the decimal equiv of the percent on the 1st test: 63/75 = .84
:
a. the second test had 75 points possible. What percent did you receive on the second test?
let x = no. of points (out of 75) you got on the 2nd test
= .88
mult both sides by 2
= 1.76
= 1.76 - .84
= .92 * 100 = 92% on the 2nd test
x = .92 * 75
x = 69 points on the 2nd test
:
b. How many total points have you earned in the class?
63 + 69 = 132 points
