Question 637727: Find the average of
-10,8,-4,2,7,-5,-12
Answer by DrBeeee(684) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Average = (sum of the numbers)/(how many number do you have)
Your numbers are
-10, 8, -4, 2, 7, -5, -12
There are seven numbers in your list.
Now add the seven numbers. Note: adding a negative number is tha same as subtracting the number. For example, adding the first two entries, -10 and 8 gives
-10 + 8 = -2 OK?
Now do the whole row and get the
Sum = -14, right?
Now use the formula for the average and obtain
Average = (-14)/7
Average = -2
Yes, the average can be negative!
