Question 52190: I have a question from a study book for taking firefighting exams. The formula makes sense but the outcome doesn't seem to work. Here it is:
Truck A leaves the station at 9:30am traveling at 45mph.
Truck B leaves the same station going the same route as truck A at 11:00am going 60mph. At what time in the day will they met up if they continue going the same speed?
I believe the formula is something like: 45x=60x-90
With the ending result being X=6
If you can give me the formula that you believe is right and walk me thourgh it a little that would be great. The problem is that the book says the answer, but when I put the answer back into the original question, it doesn't work out. It doesn't add up right.
Thank you for any help,
Wigman

Answer by Nate(3500)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
9:30 to 11:00 is 1.5 hours
Truck A has already traveled 1.5(45) miles more than Truck B.
45x + 67.5 = 60x
67.5 = 15x
4.5 = x
They will meet in 4.5 hours after 11:00am(3:30pm).
