If the average of two numbers is 73, and if one of the numbers is 59, then what is the other number? Please show all of your work

Let x = the other number
= 73
multiply both sides by 2
x + 59 = 2(73)
x + 59 = 146
x = 146 - 59
x = 87 is the other number
