find the slope, if it exists, of the line containing the pair of points (2,8) and (10,10)

Answer by oberobic(2304) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If you have 2 points, then you can draw a line.
(2,8) and (10,10)
.
y = mx + b
m = change in y divided by change in x
change in y = 10-8 = 2
change in x = 10-2 = 8
m = 2/8, so
m = 1/4
y = 1/4*x + b
.
How do we find b?
Well, we have 2 points, so use one of them.
.
10 = 1/4*10 + b
Multiply through by 4 to get rid of denominator.
40 = 10 +4b
30 = 4b
4b = 30
b = 30/4
.
So,
y = 1/4*x + 30/4
.
