THERE ARE 32 COINS ALL TOGETHER 

Let x and (32-x) represent the number of dimes and nickels respectively

 Question states:

 10x + 5(32-x) = 245 cents

        5x = 245 - 5*32

        5x = 85

         x = 17, the number of dimes.  Number of nickels is 15   (32-17)

CHECKING our Answer

    10*17 + 5*15 = 170 + 75 = 245 cents OR $2.45
