Question 252108: Three people run a mile. The first person runs the mile in seven minutes. The second person takes 5/4 as long as the first person. How many minutes did it take the third person to run the mile if the average for all three people is eight minutes?
A. 8 B. 8.25 C. 8.5 D. 9 E. 11.4
Answer by MRperkins(300) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you can find the time of the second runner by multiplying 7*(5/4). The average will be and is equal to 8 minutes.
so 7+8.75+x=8*3
15.75+x=24
x=8.25 minutes
