To solve problems like these, follow the following steps
First you have to remove the brackets.
Second, bring all the like terms to one side keeping in mind the sign changes
Third Solve or simplify accordingly
So, First we remove the brackets
5 -(2y)6+7(6)=15(3)
5 -12y +42 = 45
Second,we bring all the like terms to one side keeping in mind the sign changes
5+42-45 = 12y ( A quicker way of remembering this is that in order to remove 45 on the left side we have to subtract 45 throughout.Similarly with -12y .In order to remove -12y on the left side ,we have to add +12y on both sides)
Third, Simplify or solve
2 = 12y
Dividing by 2 throughout
1 = 6y
Dividing by 6 throughout
1/6 = y
