Question 1171131: A student scores 60 on a Mathematics test that has a mean of 54 and a standard deviation of 3, and she scores 80 on a history test with a mean of 75 and a standard deviation of 2. On which test did she perform better?

She scored better on the history test with a higher grade.
Relative to the rest of the class, she was 2 sd above the mean in Math (z=+2)
and 2.5 sd above the mean for the history test for z=+2.5
z=(x-mean)/sd to normalize the scores and make them comparable.
She also scored better relative to the class on the history test.
