Question 1157172: Suppose a rectangle is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, and then that image undergoes a second
enlargement, with a scale factor of 4. Are the final image and the original rectangle similar? If so, explain why
and give the scale factor. If not, explain why no

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the scale factor increases each part of the object by the same ratio.
firt by 3 and then by 4 makes the final object equal to 12 times as large as the original.
here's a reference.

the sides of your first figure are multiplied by 3, therefore, the sides are 3 times as large.
the side of your second figure are multiplied y 4, therefore the sides are 4 times as large.
let the original side length be be x.
the side length of the second figure is 3 * x = 3x
the side length of the the third figure is 4 * 3 * x = 12x.
