All vertical lines have undefined slopes.

Lines that lean to the right have slopes that are positive numbers.

Lines that lean to the left have slopes that are negative numbers.

Lines that are horizontal have slope 0 (zero).

To find the slope of any line pick ANY two points on the line. Draw a right
triangle with a horizontal and vertical side so that the hypotenuse is the line
segment between the two points. The vertical side is the "rise" and the
horizontal side is the "run". The slope is the fraction "rise"/"run". If the
line leans right the slope is taken positive and if it leans left the slope is
taken negative.

Here is an example:

The vertical side is 5 units long. That's the "rise".
The horizontal side is 3 units long. That's the "run".
So the slope is 5 over 3, but since it leans left the
slope is negative and is the negative number -5/3.
