Question 1153559: 1.glacier move at a rate of 20 meters per day how long will it take at this rate for a glacier to move 1 km?
2.and also express the speed of the glacier in feet per hour to the nearest tenth of a foot.
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 kilometer = 1000 meters.
1000 meters / 20 meters per day = 50 days.
there are 24 hours in a day.
20 meters is equal to 20 * 3.28084 = 65.6168 feet
therefore glacier moves at the rate of 65.6168 feet in a day.
divide that by 24 hours in a day and the glacier moves at the rate of 2.734033333... feet per hour.
to confirm:
24 * 2.734033333..... = 65.6168 feet per day / 3.28084 = 20 meters per day.
answer to the nearest tenth would be 2.7 feet per hour.
