If his average for 6 scores is 83, then his total points for 6 scores is 6 times 83. If his average for 5 scores is 84, then his total points for 5 scores is 5 times 84. The difference between his total for 6 scores and his total for 5 scores is the discarded score. You can do your own arithmetic.
