For 5 scores to average 80, they must total 400, as 5*80=400
83+75+81+74+X=400
X=87

Hi there,
Total for first 4 tests:-
83 + 75 + 81 + 74
= 313
To get an average of 80 for fifth
and final test
Total must be 5 x 80
= 400
So, 400 - 313 = 87
A test score of 87 is required
to get an average of 80 overall.
