Question 715661:
one of two supplements is 24 more than the square of the other. Find the larger angle

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X+Y=180
X=Y^2+24
(Y^2+24)+Y=180
Y^2+Y+24-180=0
Y^2+Y-156=0
(Y+13)(Y-12)=0
Y-12=0
Y=12 ANS. FOR THE SMALLER ANGLE.
X=12^2+24
X=144+24=168 ANS FOR THE LARGER ANGLE.
PROOF:
168+12=180
180=180
