What does it mean if x,y are complementary? That means x+y = 90 by definition.
Let x be one angle. Let y be the other angle.
We know that y = 18+2x
Then x + 18 + 2x = 90
3x = 72
x = 24
If x = 24, then 24+y = 90 y = 66
