x = angle
y = angle's supplement
x + y = 180
x = 12 + 1/2y
Substitute the second into the first equation
(12 + 1/2y) + y = 180
12 + 1 1/2y = 180
12 - 12 + 1 1/2y = 180 - 12
1 1/2y = 168
1 1/2 = 3/2
(3/2y)/3/2 = 168/(3/2)
y = 168(2/3)
y = 112
x = 180 - 112 = 68 is the measure of the angle

an angle's measure is 12 degree more than 1/2 the measure of its supplement. Find the measure of the angle?
------
Angle: x
Supplement: 180-x
-----------------------
x = (1/2)(180-x) + 12
----
x = 90 - (x/2) + 12
(3/2)x = 102
x = (2/3)102 = 2*34 = 68 degrees
----
180-x = 180-68 = 112 degrees
