Question 638535: Suppose M is the midpoint of Line FG.
FM = 3x-4, MG = 5x-26, FG = ?
The answer is 58. How do you get that?

Hint:
Since M is the midpoint of Line FG, we know that
FM + MG = FG
which means
3x - 4 + 5x - 26 = FG
-----------------------------------------------------------
and we also know that FM = MG (since the midpoint cuts the line segment exactly in half)
So
3x - 4 = 5x - 26
Solve this for x. Once you find x, use it in the equation 3x - 4 + 5x - 26 = FG to find FG.
