"Find the measure of an angle if its measure is 12 degrees less than 5 times the measure of its complement."
x = measure of angle
90 - x = measure of complement {complementary angles add up to 90°}
x = 5(90 - x) - 12 {its measure is 12 less than 5 times complement}
x = 450 - 5x - 12 {used distributive property}
x = 438 - 5x {combined like terms}
6x = 438 {added 5x to both sides}
x = 73 {divided both sides by 6}
the angle is 73°
