Two angles are complementary. The measure of one angle is 12° more than one-half of the measure of the other. Find the measure of each angle.
.
The sum of two angles that are complementary is 90 degrees.
.
Let x = one of two angles
then
(1/2)x + 12 = second angle
.
x + (1/2)x + 12 = 90
x + (1/2)x = 78
(2/2)x + (1/2)x = 78
(3/2)x = 78
x = (2/3)78
x = (2)26
x = 52 degrees (first angle)
.
second angle:
(1/2)x + 12 = (1/2)52 + 12 = 26 + 12 = 38 degrees
