"Two angles are supplementary. one angle is 3 degrees less than twice the other. find the measures of the angles. what is the measure of the smaller angle and the other angle?"
x = one angle
2x - 3 = other angle {one is 3 less than twice other}
Supplementary angles add up to 180°
x + 2x - 3 = 180 {added the two angles and set equal to 180}
3x - 3 = 180 {combined like terms}
3x = 183 {added 3 to both sides}
x = 61 {divided both sides by 3}
2x - 3 = 119 {substituted 61, in for x, into 2x - 3}
61° and 119° are the two angles
61° is the smaller angle
