Question 504021: the length of a rectangular parking lot is 8 meters less than twice its width. and the perimeter is 470 meters, find the length of the parking lot.

Let W= the width
Therefore, Length(L)= 2W-8 "8meters less than twice of W"
Perimeter=470
Formula: the perimeter of a rectangle; P=2(L+W)
=> 470=2[(2W-8)+W)
470=2(3W-8)
470=6W-16
470+16=6w
486=6W
W=81
However, L= (2*81)-8 =154meters
Verification:
Length=154
Width=81
Perimeter=2(154+81)=470meters
