Question 500160: The sum of the measures of an angle and one third a second angle is 32 degrees. If the angles are complementary, what are their measures?
Answer by cleomenius(959) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 1/3y = 32
multiply this equation by 3.
3x + y = 96
x + y = 90
multiply the second equation by -1 and add.
2x = 6
x = 3 degrees; the smaller angle.
the complement is 87 degrees.
1/3 87 = 29 + 3 = 32
This does check.
