I will interpret this as ABD and BDE are complementary angles and you are trying to solve for x.
5x + 17x - 18 = 90
22x = 108
x = 4.9
5(4.9) + 17(4.9) =
24.5 + 83.3 - 18 = 89.8 degrees (approx 90 degrees)
