if it starts at 2:16 pm and ends at 2:47 pm, then the duration of the class is 31 minutes because 2:47 minus 2:16 = 31.

there are 60 minutes in an hour.

the minute hand goes through a rotation of 360 degrees in one hour.

the number of degrees the minute hand traverses each minute is equal to 360 / 60 = 6 degrees.

31 minutes * 6 degrees per minute = 186 degrees.
