Question 484146: My problem is: find the measure of angel 1, 2 & 3; Given the measure of angle 1 is 2x+40; the measure of angle 2 is 2y + 40 and the measure of angle 3 is x + 2y; This is not a triangle. This is two lines that cross. (When I made up the diagram below it lined up but on the "Preview" it is distorted. Hopefully what you see looks like a cross or plus sign.)
The diagram is below. A simple cross or 'Plus Sign'. With Angle 1 in the upper left quad. Angle 2 in the upper right quad, Angle 3 in the lower right quad and the 4th angle would be in the lower left quad. Below is about the best that I can produce. Hopefully that helps. Once again thanks!!!

2x+40 1 2y+40

The 1st angle = the 3rd angle due to geometry.
So 2x+40 = x+2y
-40-x: x=2y-40.
The first two angles sum to 180 due to geometry.
So 2x+40 + 2y+40 = 180.
-80 then /2: x + y = 50
sub for x: 2y-40 + y = 50
3y = 90
y = 30
x = 2(30)-40 = 60-40 = 20
A1 = 2(20)+40 = 80, A2 = 2(30)+40 = 100, A3 = 20+2(30) = 80.
Note that it is important to compute A3 rather than assume no errors and just use A3 = A1.
