Question 464874: Two angles are supplementary if their sum equals 180. The larger angle is five degrees more than twice the smaller angle. If x represents the smaller angle, find the measure of each angle.
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = smaller angle
180 - x = larger angle

180 - x = 2x + 5 {larger angle is 5 more than twice the smaller}
180 = 3x + 5 {added x to both sides}
175 = 3x {subtracted 5 from both sides}
x = 58 1/3° {divided both sides by 3}
180 - x = 121 2/3° {substituted 58 1/3, in for x, into 180 - x}

smaller angle is 58 1/3°
larger angle is 121 2/3°
