A linear pair of angles is formed when two lines intersect. Two angles are said
to be linear if they are adjacent angles formed by two intersecting lines. The
measure of a straight angle is 180 degrees, so a linear pair of angles must add
up to 180 degrees.
Let A = first angle
Let B = second angle
Then A + B = 180 degrees
A = 4B - 5
Replace A in A + B = 180 with 4B - 5.
4B - 5 + B = 180
5B - 5 = 180
5B = 180 + 5
5B = 185
B = 185/5
B = 37 degrees
To find angle A, we go back to A + B = 180 and replace B with 37.
A + B = 180
A + 37 = 180
A = 180 - 37
A = 143 degress
Angle A = 143 degrees
Angle B = 37 degrees
