Question 295189: two angles are supplementary. the measure of one angle is twice as large as the measure of the other. find the number of degrees in each angle.

let 1st angle = x
so the 2nd angle = 180 - x (because they are supplementary)
1st angle = 2 times of 2nd angle
x = 2(180 - x)
x = 360 - 2x
x + 2x = 360
3x = 360
x = 360/3
x = 120

so, the 1st angle = x = 120 degrees
and the 2nd angle = 180 - x = 180 - 120 = 60 degrees
