Two angles are complementary. The measure of one of the angles is 10 degrees more than three times the measure of the other.Find the measure of each angle.
.
When two angles are "complementary" -- the sum of the two angles equals 90 degrees.
.
Let x = second angle
then from "The measure of one of the angles is 10 degrees more than three times the measure of the other." we get:
3x+10 = first angle
.
Because: "the sum of the two angles equals 90 degrees." we get our equation:
x + (3x+10) = 90
4x+10 = 90
4x = 80
x = 20 (second angle)
.
First angle:
3x+10 = 3(20)+10 = 60+10 = 70 (first angle)
.
Answer: 70 deg and 20 deg
