A third of an angle is 4 more than its supplement. Find both angles.
Step 1. Supplementary angles is when two angles add up to 180 degrees.
Step 2. Let x be the angle and x/3 be one-third of the angle
Step 3. Let 180-x be its supplementary angle.
Step 4. x/3=180-x+4=184-x since a third of an angle is 4 more than its supplement.
Step 5. Solving yields the following steps:
Multiply by three to both sides of the equation to yield
Add 3x to both sides of the equation
and
Check: x/3=180-x+4 or 138/3=42+4 this is a true statement.
Step 6. ANSWER: The angles are 138 and 42.
I hope the above steps were helpful.

Let x = angle,,,,,Let y = supplement = 180-x
.
x/3 = 4+y = 4+(180-x) = 184 -x
.
1.33333x=184
.
x=138,,,,,,,y=42
.
.
check,,,138/3 = 46=4+42=46,,,,,ok
