Question 186421: Please help me with the following problem. A diagonal walk through a small rectangular garden 9 meters by 12 meters can be built at $10 per linear meter. How much will the walk cost?

You an use the Pythagorean theorem to solve this problem by first finding the length of the diagonal (hypotenuse) of the right triangle formed by two adjacent sides (legs) of the rectangular garden.
where c = the hypotenuse (diagonal), a = 9 meters and b = 12 meters.

Take the square root of both sides.

So the length of the diagonal walk is 15 meters and the cost (C), at $10 per linear meter will be:

The walk will cost $150.00
