Question 162580: the measure of an amgle is 35 more than twice the complement of the angle. Find the measure of the angle, its supplement, and its complement
Note: The complement of an angle is always 90-(angle); the supplement of an angle is always 180-(angle)
Let x= angle1
Then 90-x=complement of angle1
180-x=supplement of angle1
Now lets translate from words to algebra:
x =2(90-x)+35
x=180-2x+35
x=215-2x
x+2x=215-2x+2x
3x=215+0
3x/3=215/3
x=215/3
complement = 90-(215/3)=(270/3)-(215/3)=55/3
supplement = 180-(215/3)=(540/3)-(215/3)=325/3

According to person who posted problem, it should be set up as follows:
180-x = 2(90-x)+ 35
yet 180-x stands for the measure of the supplement of an angle...setting up the problem like this would be correct if the problem was the following:
THE MEASURE OF THE SUPPLEMENT OF AN ANGLE IS 35 MORE THAN TWICE THE COMPLEMENT OF THE ANGLE. FIND THE MEASURE OF THE ANGLE, ITS SUPPLEMENT, AND ITS COMPLEMENT
