: Right triangle. Length of AB is 2.5. Length of BC is 4.5. B is the right angle. Question: What is Angle A?
(This question did not come out of the book listed above but is sample question from a test. The book referenced is a teachers' edition that doesn't go into this kind of detail. But I apparently have to fill in those blanks to get the question posed. Thanks for any help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x=measure of angle A

If we draw the triangle, it would look something like this:
drawing%28500%2C500%2C-0.5%2C2%2C-0.5%2C3.2%2C%0D%0A%0D%0Aline%280%2C0%2C0%2C3%29%2C%0D%0Aline%280%2C3%2C2%2C0%29%2C%0D%0Aline%282%2C0%2C0%2C0%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%28-0.2%2C1.5%2C2.5%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%281%2C-0.2%2C4.5%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%28-.1%2C3%2CA%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%280%2C0%2CB%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%282%2C0%2CC%29%2C%0D%0Alocate%28.01%2C2.85%2CX%29%0D%0A%0D%0A%29

To find angle A, we can use trigonometry to do so. We can use the tangent function to find the measure of angle A

Remember

So

Now take the inverse tangent of both sides

Take the inverse tangent of 1.8 to get 60.95

So the measure of angle A is about 60.95 degrees
