Question 1139370: The complement of an angle is one-sixth the measure of the supplement of the angle. What is the measure of the complement angle?
Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x = the angle
90 - x = the complement {complementary angles add up to 90}
180 - x = the supplement {supplementary angles add up to 180}
90 - x = (1/6)(180 - x) {the complement is 1/6 times the supplement}
540 - 6x = 180 - x {multiplied entire equation by 6 to eliminate fraction}
360 = 5x {added 6x and subtracted 180 to and from each side}
x = 72 {divided each side by 6}
The angle is 72.
90 - x = 18
The complement is 18.
